The Greatest Mix Ever

Way back when, in like grade 7/8 when i first started getting into dance music, I bought "On The Floor at the Boutique - Mixed by Fatboy Slim", back when I didn't even know what it meant for someone to "mix" something. The first couple times I listened to it, it was okay, i was a bit confused since it didn't really sound like his albums, but about the 4th time i listened to it, i was hooked. I've probably listened to it about 500 times since then, just doing my homework or whatever in my room with my headphones on. Every 50 times or so, I notice new elements or techniques that never occurred to me. The way Norman mixes oldschool breaks, bigbeat and acid house is pure genius. He selects the tracks in such a way that the sound of this mix is a unique sound of its own. I look for acid house gems or rave compilations, downloading stuff by the same artists as on the tracklisting, but nothing would ever replicate the sound of this mix. The strength of the mix is that powerful. It sounds like a genre of its own. It's just Fatboy Slim's "On The Floor at the Boutique". Here's a high quality, straight-from-the-cd rip, in one track. Enjoy.

Fatboy Slim - On the Floor at the Boutique

Tracks

"Apache" by Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band – 2:46
"Discositdown" by Fred Wesley & The Horny Horns – 3:34
"Deaf Mick's Throwdown" by Clockwork Voodoo Freaks – 2:04
"Because I Got It Like That" (ultimatum Mix) by Jungle Brothers – 3:10
"Vol 1 Side 2 Track 2" by Bassbin Twins – 2:31
"That Green Jesus" by Mr Natural – 4:31
"The World's Made Up of This & That" (Fatboy Slim Mix) by Deeds Plus Thoughts – 3:29
"Michael Jackson" by Fatboy Slim – 4:38
"Phun-Ky" by DJ Tonka – 4:45
"Forget It" by Cut & Paste – 3:05
"Everybody in the House" by Buzzthrill – 3:01
"Can You Feel It?" by CLS – 4:03
"Acid Enlightenment" by Aldo Bender – 2:27
"I'm a Disco Dancer" by Christopher Just – 2:29
"Psychopath" by Hardknox – 4:14
"Break In" by Cirrus – 3:28
"Give Me My Auger Back" by Psychedeliasmith – 4:21
"Post Punk Progression" by Cut La Roc – 2:20
"The Rockafeller Skank" by Fatboy Slim – 6:05

I also made an edit out of CLS's "Can You Feel It" (or is it Todd Terry?), imitating the way it's done in this mix. I just extended the intro and applied a dynamic EQ effect, so it sounds like it bubbles from below for a while and then slams into the full-on synths. DJs, let this play underneath a beat for 16 bars and then just slam it in. I think you won't be let down.

for those who downloaded my crap-myspace-rip Krames' What more Time mp3, you can find a much better quality version over at missingtoof.flat

more bmore?

I've been looking for this mad song called Foot Stompin, by KW Griff. So I've been googling pretty fiercely lately, to no avail. In an act of desperation, I checked out www.baltimoreclubtracks.com, where apparently DJ Technics is always ready to answer anyone's questions on his chat box (read from the bottom up).

(read from the bottom up)

Unfortunately, he couldn't help me. But one more search finally led me to the track!

All it took was a rip from a flash embed.

KW Griff - Foot Stompin (divshare link)

Another track I've been trying to find was that crazy One More Time remix (wha! wha wha!!! wha! wha wha!!)

Turns out it was Krames and all that took was a rip from his myspace.

Krames - What! More Time

---> THIS JUST IN!
Missingtoof posted a much better quality version: Krames - What! More Time (not a myspace rip)

Institubes Paris Terror Club

Institubes Paris Terror Club
Vancouver show at Richards
Sept 12 2007

There were only about 100 people there, and there was a crazy lady violating my pockets because she thought i stole her cell-phone, but I had a freaking great time.

I hate to compare, but while Ed Banger DJ'd, Institubes performed.

Thanks, Institubes, for truly owning us that night

Mr Oizo Special

Patrick 122 is epic, stellar, overhyped, underhyped, awesome, catchy, massive. I dont know if its going to be as big as Flat Beat, but regardless, I think Mr Oizo is one of the most talented dance artists ever. If he was more productive, he'd be right up there with the chemical brothers, aphex twin, ian pooley, other-what-have-you-popular-dance-and-electronic-artists. He may not be productive, with only 2 albums in what, about 10 years? But they're both excellent, each with different sounds but still the great Mr Oizo sound. You can tell he's "real", whatever that means, he has his own style and he's not afraid to change. He even made a movie apparently. That is cool.

Since I've been checking out the mp3 blogs, I just haven't seen enough exposure to music from his album "Moustache (Half a Scissor)", and it is totally french electro, if not as distorted-sounding, so here we go.

Mr Oizo - Half a Scissor (zshare)

Mr Oizo - Drop Urge Need Elle (zshare)

Mr Oizo - Square Surf (zshare)

as a special bonus, you also get my *awesome* 320 kb rip of patrick 122 =)

Mr Oizo - Patrick 122 (zshare)

OH and if you're still reading and not just clicking the zshare links, buy Stunt and 1$44: here (at least listen to the preview and if it doesnt make you go crazy don't buy it)

and totally buy Moustache (Half a Scissor) if you've got 12 bucks (bonus: iTunes Plus, no drm at 256 kbps!).

k thanks Bye!

this is VANCOUVER

I am posting some stuff just to show off how kick ass vancouver is. When I saw MSTRKRFT at V Fest, I heard Jesse Keeler say something to the crowd in his headphone-microphone while Neon Knights was playing. It was something along these lines (I couldn't hear him properly): "Vancouver!! How are you doing tonight?!?!" [half-empty audience half-heartedly cheers] .... "i think Vancouver ....... Vancouver is the place for it to happen.....so for those of you who didn't say anything the first time, now is your chance...[waiting for breakdown to finish towards climax] right [more waiting] NOW!" [crowd slightly more heartedly cheers]

So whether or not Jesse was actually making a testament to Vancouver's awesomeness and cultural culturage or a local musical revolution or whatever, I think it is a sick town, so I will post some local talent, including two close friends of mine who are just overflowing with talent all of a sudden.

Diizy (aka Justin Laberge) has been making raverap mashups for a while, but his latest two I've definitely given a few well-deserved plays in a row:

LEAN 2 THA ORANGE THEME

TAMBORZUDA TIPPIN

Jesse Kanda's graphic design name is Humili and while he just got hired at Hi Res, he also is starting his DJ life, with like 5 sweet ableton mixes and a couple mashups. And trust me, he can do it live too. While its a tad dated now, its still my favorite mix of his so checky checky ..

"Into The Starways Mix"

On the slightly more known / successful tip, Paul Devro is blowing up all over the world and I'm really feeling his latest (unfinished apparently) Sick Beyonce mangling creation (also from Mad Decent): (also see Salbourg, good club night)

Switch/Beyonce - Ring This Sick Alarm (Unfinished Paul Devro Sigur Ros Language Steez Remix Lumpoff 2010)

Another good club night is Half-Alive (with raverap extraordinaires Tyler Fedchuk, My!Gay!Husband!, Tony X). And they make good edits, this is one of my favorites, for gimmicky bmore suckers like me:
